I can’t believe how time flies!

UncleATM

It seems just like yesterday I was celebrating my first anniversary. I still remember the first day I was given a task to do and how scared I was with my presentation (I am still scared, though). Without a doubt, I am no longer the same classroom teacher that worked through the doors of Brainiacs STEM and Robotics although I am still a classroom teacher.

My journey to the EdTech space happened when I took my younger learners to a Robotics competition in 2019. I saw the potentials and opportunities STEM education can give to this young one and this made me realise I want to be a contributor to this space rather than a user; I do not just want to spectate. I also want to play in the field and get my jersey number.

Although the Nigerian EdTech space is still a virgin one and trying to find its feet, I enjoy seeing the light in the eyes of my young learners when they complete a particular project or complete a task. I enjoy building games with them, dragging blocks and using a glue gun to join items together. I enjoy answering their hilarious questions and listening to one of them say he will like to take me home so I can be teaching him every day.

I have amassed various skills and unlocked different talents I never thought possible and this has been my driving force towards doing what I do.

Some of the projects I have undertaken within the past two years are:

1. Designed a Drone technology curriculum for Primary and Secondary school students

2. Collaborated with other colleagues to design a futuristic STEAM cross-curriculum to cater for students from Primary school to university graduates

3. Led a team of 5 awesome individuals to build a world-class virtual learning platform for STEAM education CC: stemacademy.io

4. Led a team to host STEAM Easter and summer holiday camps in STEAM across various states in Nigeria.

5. Increased the number of clients on the company’s Afterschool program by about 233% in less than 2 months of taking over the portfolio.

6. Collaborated with a team to lead the team to build a virtual community that hosted over 1000 students during the pandemic lockdown of 2020. The learners were engaged in various STEM activities.

7. Collaborated with a team to infuse STEM into the ICT curriculum for primary school students

8. Collaborated with my colleagues to develop an enhanced ICT textbook and workbook for primary school students

9. Collaborated with my colleagues to develop an enhanced ICT teachers’ guidebook for primary school teachers.

10. Developed documentation to improve the company’s content development process

I couldn’t have done this without amazing people in my corner.

Currently, I lead the Enhanced STEAM programme where we partner with schools to introduce STEAM education as an afterschool club. You can read more about what we do here: https://www.brainiacs.com.ng/steam-enhancement/

Here’s to doing more!
